September 8, 2004 DENVER - University of Denver head men's basketball coach Terry Carroll has announced assistant coach Marcus Mason has been promoted to second assistant. Mason fills the vacancy created when former assistant Matt Woodley left to pursue other opportunities. Mason served as the Pioneers' third assistant last season. In his second season with the Pioneers, Mason will join Greg Lackey and Carroll, he will continue to work with all aspects of the team including recruiting, scouting, scheduling and on-floor practices. The Pioneers still have one coaching position open. Prior to coming Denver last season, the Memphis, Tenn., native served as a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee for two years. Mason was responsible for film exchange and several game day duties along with on-the-floor coaching. He was also involved in helping coordinate on-campus recruiting visits. Mason played the final two seasons of his collegiate career at Middle Tennessee after spending two seasons at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tenn. While at Walters State, Mason helped lead his team to the Eastern Division title. He was honored as the team's top defensive specialist for his efforts as a senior. During his tenure at Middle Tennessee, Mason gained a reputation as a scrappy player, doing whatever was asked of him in practice. He became a fan favorite and was a leader the locker room, especially with younger players. He graduated in 2001 with a degree in university studies and received his master's degree in health in 2004. Mason played high school basketball at Houston High School. He was part of four district championships and a sub-state appearance under head coach David Stephens.

FORT COLLINS — Owners of the most losses in school history (24), the longest losing streak (17), and their first winless record in Mountain West Conference play, Colorado State's players and coaches filed out quietly and grim-faced after their season finale at Moby Arena on Saturday afternoon.
